3.21.08 GOLEM GIRLS

This week we had Annette Ezekiel and Alicia Jo Rabins from Brooklyn klezmeristas Golem stop by before their Purim blow-out over to the Helsinki. And they dragged Splatto pal Mr. Rogovoy along for good measure, and I goaded him into asking a bunch of questions in Yiddish.

Some of these shows (like this one) are really special, I think I need to start posting them online every week so people can come get them..... Let me look into that...

I also have to start bringing a camera to the studio on Fridays.

3.14.08 BOOTLEG TONIC

Superstar alert. I met Georgiana (she's the one on the right.....) in a parking lot in Pittsfield three weeks ago--she was giving a stockboy a copy of her new CD, and I alertly asked for one, too. And am I glad I did. She and Eran (he's the one on the left) are the core of Bootleg Tonic, a new NYC-based group, and The Splatto Festival is proud to have given them their first radio airplay and to host their first radio interview.

How good were they? Well, people came running to the studio to meet them yesterday--and I went to a gallery opening after the show and people there were talking about them. These things don't happen under normal circumstances.

They were just brilliant, and I can't wait to get them up here with a full band once we get into the new space.

12.21.07 X-MAS FINI

Sweet Jesus I'm glad Christmas season is almost over. Ted and I rode it out with zeal, including an extended discussion about that insufferable pantload chump-ass punk Bill O'Reilly, who came up here last week to try to get ratings on GB's back, and whom I dare to appear on my show. What a pathetic little man. Actually my time's too valuable, my show's my sanctuary, I withdraw the dare.

11.2.07 CHRIS MERENDA

So this guy emails me and asks if he can be on my show. The official Splatto Festival guest policy is that we only allow people on the show who ask to be on the show. Unless we ask them first. So I said "sure."

So Chris shows up with a guitar and banjo, and we had an absolute riot. Turns out he lives two doors down from the studio, so I'm thinkin' he's gonna be a regular. Best known as the drummer for The Mammals, he's one hell of a singer and songwriter, too. Go buy his music. It will make you happy, and you want to be happy, right?
