Ah, well. Jane Bunnett MIA. Whaddyagonna do? I mean other than cancel your scheduled print review of her evening performance? I really didn't have a choice on that one, when you think about it, journalistic integrity being what it is. I mean, even mine!

It's not like I tailored my show to her appearance, and told a couple other touring artists playing in town this weekend that I couldn't interview them, because I was booked up.

Oh, wait. It was like that.

As my late friend, Bert, who played his first gig on the main stage at Woodstock and died a destitute junkie, used to say: "That's showbiz, babe!"

We had our share of fun nonetheless, what with the endless butchering of the Spanish language and the reading of several ominous thunderstorm warnings. And I got to feature a whole bunch of Alex Torres, who I don't play nearly enough of.

In spite of the complications, you could still listen to the community radio station, and it was alright.

Jane Bunnett on Splatto

From catsthatlooklikehitler.com. This is what makes the internet great. Another in a long line of luminescent cat sites, like infinitecat.com and stuffonmycat.com. And I am not, by a long stretch, a cat person.

But this isn't why we're here. We're here to tell you that we've got the wonderful and famous and big and important Afro-Cuban jazz saxophonist Jane Bunnett on Friday in the studio, as a prelude to her two-night stand at Helsinki.

Barbara Dean interviewed folk legend David Mallett, who's gigging at the Guthrie Center, for about 45 minutes. That's not David in the picture. That's somebody else.

What I could hear coming out of the studio sounded devine, and what I'm hearing on playback right now is even better. I'd give my left nut to sing like this guy.
