Chihuahuas are nice dogs. Well, they're nice almost-dogs. Good companions, and preternaturally smart. My chihuahua Chol-Rang knows more Korean than me. By a large margin, and he doesn't even study.

3.23.07 EJ AND THE CT

Wow wow wow was that great. With ample help from my guest host who should be my permanent co-host except some people have to work for a living Ted Potrikus, we enjoyed Elana James and the Continental Two for well over an hour of music and conversation. Words cannot describe how cool they were. They showed up, unpacked, and were blazing away from note one. They were funny and thoughtful and incredibly alive.
Due to a computer glitch we didn't record the interview, otherwise I'd post it. But some highlights were Elana's recounting about how she tried busking during recess in 6th grade, which got her sent to the principal's office; and her answer to my question about songwriting: "I don't really like writing, but I do really like having written."

Shortly after they left, Ted, in a state of catatonic euphoria, mumbled to me: "I've never had anyone play a concert just for me before." It was indeed a rarified thing--when you discount the fact that they were playing into microphones and transmitting out to anybody in GB lucky enough to have their radio on, it was just the three of them playing for the two of us.

I implore each and every one of you to buy her records and to go see her & the band whenever they are anywhere near you. A million thanks to Elana, Whit and Beau.

Next Friday, March 23, the Splatto Festival is utterly proud to host Elana James and The Continental Two, performing live in the studio! Tell yer frens!!!

This photo is entitled "Irish Yoga."

Today's show was going to consist of me playing Irish music to remind the Southern Berkshires that it was St. Patrick's Day, which no one seems to appreciate hereabouts. I am of the opinion that a holiday that promises guilt-free drinking and bad behavior ought to be celebrated heartily. I had on-deck a bunch of the connoisseur stuff that my ace mechanic Dominick burned for me last year, and a healthy dose of my Celtic pals The McKrells, Jeff Strange, and Hair of the Dog.

But then I noticed that Todd Lewis's installment of Hear Here (showcasing all of the live music coming up in the region this week) didn't air at 1 PM like it was supposed to, and I know that he busted his ass to pre-record the damn thing. It appeared that the reason for the show's disappearance was that the computers at the studio weren't on speaking terms. Todd's show was sitting on one computer, and it couldn't get to the 'puter that was actually broadcasting. So I walked Todd's show from one room to the next and threw it on at around 3:30, after a nice interview with chanteuse Christina Dellea.

I wound up playing 1 1/2 Irish songs, starting at 4:50PM Maybe I'll just do an Irish show in a couple of weeks to maintain the O'Karmic balance of the world.

3.9.07 413.644.9797

We're raising money to keep the station on the air. On Friday you will call 413.644.9797 and make a contribution dammit. I will be there starting at 6 AM and will stay until they say "Paul, why don't you just go home." As it turns out, I'll be hosting three different shows during the course of the day. And I'll be begging the whole time...
